With effect from September 2014 there were major changes regarding school meal payment. ALL children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are now automatically be eligible for Universal Free School Meals. This means that they will be entitled to a free school meal every day if they wish.
Please note that we will continue with our established protocols for meals in so far as the '2nd option' is concerned, which means that the school office needs to be advised a week in advance if the 2nd option of main course is required.
Free School Meals (without the 'universal' at the beginning) are different and any child is eligible for these, if their parents fit the required criteria. Please follow the link above to see full details. We urge all families who can apply for Free School Meals to do so, as the school then gains further additional funding which in turn supports your child in other areas.
School Meals for Key Stage 2 children are just £2.30 per day, which represents great value for money when considering the benefits, the price of food in the shops and their convenience compared with a packed lunch.
In addition to great value, school lunches provide children with:
a healthy, tasty meal which meet the latest nutritional standards
a high proportion of traditionally prepared, homemade dishes providing choice and variety to suit all tastes
lunches that are prepared using locally sourced produce where possible (East Anglia Food Link rate SCC amongst the top four local authorities in the UK in this matter)
great value for money
convenience – saving you time preparing packed lunches
improved learning abilities – studies have shown that children concentrate better in lessons if they have had a fulfilling lunchtime meal
children with the opportunity to develop their social skills, whilst eating with others and talking to our
friendly staff whilst being served their lunch.
children with a chance to relax in a safe, supervised environment with friends.
Our school cook and dinner ladies care about the food they prepare, the children they serve and believe that school catering should be an integral part of school life and learning. We encourage children and try to develop their enjoyment, understanding and appreciation of good food.
School dinners can be paid for at the School Office, ideally in advance on a Monday, but first thing on the day if need be. Meals can be paid for in cash, or by cheque (payable to Suffolk County Council), or online at:
Please speak with Mrs Baker in the School Office if you have any queries regarding school dinners.
